Men That Hit Their Daughters

Spectrum, art for video games Azpiri

Discuss
Alfonso Azpiri any person whose pre-teen or childhood passed in the mid-80 should be unnecessary, since it is an author whose work is almost all we were lucky to enjoy some form or another, due to the popularity that reached in those years. But as often happens in many fields, the artist is often left in the shadow of his own work, and probably few people who I pass by here you are able to put a face to the person responsible as recognizable video game covers how are you:

Before commenting on the book's title to the entrance, we review briefly the career of the author. Alfonso Azpiri is a cartoonist and illustrator born in Madrid in 1947, most famous for his contributions to the genre of science fiction and, above all, the erotic (not pornographic). However, between its two main characters, Mot and Lorna, only the first two genera belonging to the above, being a comic Mot children and adolescents. As already mentioned, much of his reputation among the public at least fan of the comic world is due to the contributions he made to the mid-eighties with most major English companies software development activities for the family of eight-bit computers, both illustrating the covers, such as screen layouts, levels and characters.

Lorna, his best known character is a space heroine finds herself in a thousand and one adventures (usually naked, that must be weighing very heavily on space wear a wool jersey for the heat of the suns and that, I wonder ...) throughout its nearly ten albums, quite rightly blending science fiction and erotica. Often accompanied by their robot, which has a relationship a little ... somewhat ... well, let's leave "a relationship." While it is a character who, for my taste, usually loose enough in the scripts, in the drawing is another story. Thanks to the particular author's style of drawing when explosive scantily clad women, the character has endured the pull from more than twenty years, causing not remember not a single one of their arguments, but nearly all its bullets . To display a button (or more):

Mot, however, debuted in the children's supplement of the newspaper "El País" and therefore is a character known well over the general public, but unjustly neglected for many years and albums under his back. Mot is a monster that comes seemingly threatening a good day of television a preteen named Leo. After just ruin the house and empty the refrigerator, the two become reluctant friends, with the advantages and disadvantages associated with having as a friend to a monster with horns about three tons of weight (such as frequent visits to the psychiatrist who suffers from poor Leo .) The scripts are here performed by Nacho (José Ignacio Moreno Cuñat) and improvement is quite noticeable. Unfortunately, the adventures of this character in Spain just had an incredibly edition patillera (in fact, the last volume had not even been released in hardcover) until about three months ... it was time, man ... One issue, of course, highly recommended, as this very carefully and includes sketches, drawings and any other promotional curiosity.

But, as we advance, the part of his work that most people remember fondly, it is for their collaboration on the covers of over two hundred of those great (and not so great, no mistake) video game known as the "Golden Age of English Software." Illustrations showy and spectacular, high quality, often hiding some zurulletes videojueguísticos care, courtesy of Dynamic , Topo , Opera Soft and some more company. I acknowledge that during my childhood, I often shit in the pedigree of this man when, moved by an amazing cover, I spent the wages to buy a title infectious inhuman difficulty for my Spectrum +2 A. Today, I keep the covers of the games, while the tapes were a waste container for many years, which does not surprise me now, nor have surprised me almost twenty years ... because we go shit ate, masters, and what we liked. Fortunately, I no longer will need to have them stored in a drawer (although I will probably due to my terminal Diogenes syndrome) since Planeta de Agostini has recently published picture book Spectrum. The Art of Azpiri gaming, that collects most of his illustrations for major software publishers English.

About this book, you can only make an observation: Spectrum is a book that gives pleasure to read (rather admire, because text has very little). For anyone who have lived through this time of the English software, it is certainly a delight to which you can not put a price. However, the Planet has decided (logically) to put a cost of 14.95 EURET wing, which does not seem expensive at all, because the presentation is excellent, with a cover that resembles a cassette tape, hardcover and even with a foreword by Gonzo Suarez (Opera Soft, Commandos ) a luxury. It's nice to finally have this collection of artwork to a decent size and quality, something that was necessary at this point. The only problem I see is that I swear that another cover missing the collection. However, is a minor problem (and I could not prove it yet, actually), since they are practically in full, including several unpublished and other games I had not seen in my life.

In conclusion an essential book for fans of one of the best English illustrators, required for ex-lovers Spectrum and Amstrad and interesting (even if just take a look) for the rest of us because it never hurts to know something about this little part of English history. Oh, and one of the few books that increases its charm if you fall on a few spots of Nutella! ... but if someone lie down on my copy, I would have to make me a necklace with his ears.
